Who we are

Momentum is a registered charity established in 2004 which aims to help children (up to the age of 17) and the families of children, undergoing treatment for cancer in Surrey and South West London. Momentum was set up by Bianca Effemey and two parents who had first hand experience of these life-changing events, with the simple goal of trying to help others in similar circumstances.

7 What Momentum does

Momentum supports the WHOLE FAMILY, parents, siblings and grandparents. By establishing close links to the families we can identify ways to help that fit their specific needs. Our support continues as long as the family needs it.

  • At any one time we support over 200 families. Sadly the number of children who are diagnosed with cancer or life-limiting conditions is increasing.
  • Momentum organises events at which children with cancer and their siblings have the opportunity to meet with other children who share their circumstances.
  • Momentum offers holidays at the charity's log cabin where families can go for much needed respite breaks.
  • Momentum is currently supporting children who are undergoing treatment at Kingston Hospital, St. George’s Hospital in Tooting, St. Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey and The Royal Marsden Hospital in Surrey.

  • Momentum raises funds for projects to enhance the healing environment for children who have to spend long periods of time in hospital or who have to make frequent visits to hospital.

  • Momentum supports families who have suffered a bereavement.
