FUNDRAISING
|
| |
| |
If you would like to do some fundraising on behalf of Momentum, the best way to collect sponsorship money is by setting up a JUST GIVING page. This extremely useful website can then be visited by all your friends and family, who can decide how much money they want to sponsor you for and can then pay through the site. (No more hassling people after you’ve done your run/skydive or whatever!) The Just Giving site also makes sure that your sponsors register for Gift Aid, which increases the value of their donation considerably.
Momentum are registered with Virgin Money Giving and their website is self-explanatory (www.virginmoneygiving.co.uk)
If you’d like to fundraise, but would like to do something a bit different, then why not contact SKYLINE EVENTS? (www.skylineevents.co.uk) They have lots of fundraising ideas which they can organize for you. For instance, if you’ve always wanted to have a go at skydiving, they can help you fulfill your dream and raise money at the same time!
Here at Momentum we would love to hear from you about any fundraising you are doing. Then we can put a piece on this page, with a link to your page on the Just Giving website. Please email Natalie Harvey, Momentum’s PR and Events Manager with information (Natalie@moment-um.org) and don’t forget to send us some pictures too. Good luck! |

80 INCREDIBLE MILES and £10,000 FOR MOMENTUM
On July 26th, twin brothers Oliver and Will Southon, with their friends Peter Clement and Paul Viney, managed to run an incredibly gruelling 80 miles across the South Downs on behalf of Momentum. However, their endeavours have paid off handsomely and to date they have raised nearly £10,000 on our behalf! (Check out their webpage www.justgiving.com/the80)
They chose us as their recipient charity because Peter lost his son Lewis (Oliver and Will’s best friend) to cancer in 2002. Lewis was only 20 and had been fantastically fit and energetic, which inspired Oliver, Will, Peter and Paul to do a fundraising run in his memory.
The South Downs 80 was an organised trail race until the mid 90s when it closed due to lack of sponsorship. Peter Clement ran the event with his friend Paul for over a decade and Lewis Clement was always there at the finish to see his Dad home. So Oliver, Will, Peter and Paul felt that this was the event they had to do to raise money in Lewis’ memory.
They started out from Petersfield at 5am on the Saturday morning and arrived in Eastbourne at 1.30am on Sunday – an incredible 20 and a half hours later!
Oliver Southon said: “The South Downs really threw everything at us. We had a lot of support from friends and family which really helped. It was hot and the rough surface really hurt our feet. We had to do the last 10 miles in darkness and even with our maps and the help of Alastair Doyle and Jeremy Wilde (we know them from our Tuesday night runs, they are orienteers) we got lost and it took a very long time to find Eastbourne!
It was very hard on all of us and considering Pete and Paul are in their 50s, it was a huge achievement. We couldn't have done it without the motivation of knowing how much money we were going to raise for a great cause like Momentum.
An enormous thank you from everyone at Momentum to these dedicated and obviously very fit foursome!
Paul, Peter, Oliver and Will presented their cheque for £10,000 to teenagers, Natalie and Hannah, at Kingston Hospital on 4th September. |
