Nerea's story
Nerea's story
Since six-year-old Nerea Whitmore was diagnosed with leukaemia in January 2015, Momentum has been by her family’s side.
Mum Izzy and dad Seamus, from Strawberry Hill in Twickenham, say that the charity has been like a lifeline to them, providing them not only with emotional support but also practical support in terms of a weekend break away at one of Momentum’s peaceful log cabins in the beautiful New Forest.
Mum Izzy says: “From the outset Momentum has been amazing to us. The warmth, just knowing that they are behind you, that they understand what you are going through, it all means so much to us.
“The lovely thing about Momentum is just the knowledge that they are there for you. Whether it’s for a hug and a chat or for some practical help. And you know that the support is there for as long as you need it.
“It has been a tough few months. Momentum knew this so at the end of summer they offered us a break away at one of their log cabins and the use of their brand new beach hut.
“We had such a fantastic time, just relaxing and getting away from it all. The weather was beautiful and Nerea even went in the water.
“Just having that facility available to us meant so much. It’s somewhere to escape to when things get really rough and you need a break.”
Momentum has also offered Nerea dance classes which Izzy says her daughter is very much looking forward to taking up when she is stronger.
We are thrilled to announce that on Tuesday 11th July Nerea rang the 'End of Treatment Bell' to mark the end of her cancer treatment.
