Sonja Timpson
Sonja Timpson, a Paediatric Sister at Kingston Hospital, ran the glorious autumn Royal Parks Half Marathon for us in October 2016 with her good friend Andrea Willis. Together they raised a fantastic £785 for Momentum.
Sonja had joined the Paediatric Outreach Nursing Team in March 2016 and immediately saw how important Momentum’s role was in supporting local families who were facing unimaginable stresses. "I was able to see first-hand the difference the charity was making to childrens’ lives. I liked the broad and imaginative approach that Momentum had taken in offering support too – from hospital ward improvements, to therapies and innovative ways of ensuring that families were able to take time out together from intense treatment regimes." When she won a ballot place for the Royal Parks Half Marathon it made perfect sense to support Momentum. When Sonja told Andrea what she was planning, and why, Andrea was really keen to join her; we were delighted to offer Andrea a guaranteed place in return for a fundraising pledge of £300.
Looking back on the day and on the challenges of asking people for donations, Sonja says: "Asking friends and family for sponsorship wasn’t difficult - I felt proud to be working at Kingston Hospital and extremely proud to be able to say I was running for Momentum. When the day of the half marathon arrived, we both felt really good to be wearing the Momentum running vests and were so buoyed by supporters of the charity who had come along to cheer on all those running for #TeamMo. It really made a huge difference to our spirits at some challenging points in the race." And we were just thrilled to be there and see them run by!
