Charity brightens up Kingston Hospital's Sunshine Children's Ward
Stunning pictures of a colourful fairground scene and tropical sealife have brightened up Sunshine Ward at Kingston Hospital, thanks to another refurbishment by Momentum Children’s Charity.
The beautiful artwork was installed on the six-bedded bay of the children’s ward as part of Momentum Children’s Charity’s ongoing commitment to enhance the healing environment at the hospital. The makeover is the first of a number of projects planning by the charity for 2018, to improve the experience for children with cancer or a serious illness when they have to stay in hospital.
Over the past 13 years the Kingston-based charity has carried out extensive refurbishment projects at the hospital, including installing a Teenage Room, a Sensory Room and carrying out makeovers in the Paediatric Outpatients and A&E departments. More recently the charity brought a beautiful and tranquil ‘Secret Garden’ to the outside play area.
Paediatric Clinical Practice Facilitator Jaymini Patel said: “The refurbishment looks beautiful and really brightens up the ward. When our young patients are in here for days at a time, being able to look up at such stunning artwork from their hospital beds can have such a positive impact on their stay.”
In addition to refurbishing large areas of the Paediatric Department at Kingston Hospital to enhance the environment, Momentum provides emotional and practical support to many families at the hospital and in the Kingston area as part of its Family Support Programme.
