Children's Charity £5,000 Refurb Brightens Up St Peter's Hospital Isolation Room
Beautiful colourful images of Momentum children’s charity’s Mo the Owl mascot and his friends now adorn the walls of the Isolation Cubicle in the Paediatric Unit at St Peter’s Hospital.
The Isolation Cubicle on Ash Ward, which has been completely refurbished thanks to a £5,000 refurbishment project by Momentum to make it a more child-friendly and welcoming place, is already proving to be a big hit with staff and patients alike.
St Peter’s Hospital Paediatric Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist Lizzie Sturt said: “Our paediatric oncology patients can stay in a cubicle for weeks on end, not only at diagnosis but at any point during their cancer journey. Having a bright, colourful, cheerful room eases their stay in hospital and ultimately reduces their anxiety. This is crucial for building children’s resilience towards future medical interventions.”
Momentum’s Co-Founder Bianca Effemey said: “Enhancing the healing environment in hospitals is a large part of Momentum’s work. Studies have shown that a good hospital environment can greatly improve a child’s recovery time and of course the staff also benefit from a brighter, more welcoming place in which to work.”
