Lesley Garrett lights up the night in Teddington

Momentum Children’s Charity, a local organisation that supports children with cancer and life-challenging conditions, celebrated their 15th anniversary year with world renowned soprano Lesley Garrett singing for their Opera Gala. The event took place on Sunday 17th March 2019 at the Landmark Arts Centre in Teddington.

Attendees described the night as a magical event that warmed the heart with such powerful voices. Lesley wowed the crowd with 10 mesmerizing songs, including some of her favourites, such as Medley composed by Rogers and Hammerstein, All Around My Hat made famous by Steeleye Span, Brindisi composed by Verdi, and many more.

Lesley Garrett was also joined by other soloists and special guests including The Tiffinians and Viva Voce, with a chorus comprised of ROH, ENO and WNO, conducted by Stephen Harris and Johann Stuckenbruck. We'd also like to thank our presenter, Michael Simkins.

Lesley Garrett CBE says: “The most memorable moment of the night for me was at the end. It was hearing Bianca Effemey, Founder of Momentum Children’s Charity, talk about how the charity has impacted the families in the community and then being able to sing You’ll Never Walk Alone by Rogers and Hammerstein, which is such an inspiring song about support and hope. It was a great way to end the night.”

It finished with Lesley Garrett singing as the crowd lifted-up glow sticks to light up the night in honour of all the families the charity has supported.

“What a fantastic evening. Lesley was sensational. It was very emotional to see some of the families we’ve supported over the past 15 years watching in the crowd. I’d like to thank all the performers and everyone who chose to attend. We are already looking forward to next year’s event” Bianca Effemey, Founder and CEO of Momentum Children’s Charity.
