Sealife makeovers transform rooms at Kingston Hospital
Stunning scenes of blue seas and brightly-coloured tropical fish now adorn the walls of a bay in the Day Surgery Unit and an Isolation Cubicle on Sunshine Ward at Kingston Hospital, thanks to recent refurbishment projects by local children’s charity Momentum.
Momentum was able to carry out these refurbishments thanks to sponsors The Generations Foundation.
The walls have been transformed from bare, white walls to scenes of a tropical paradise, complete with deep blue seas, sealife creatures such as lobsters, crabs and colourful tropical fish.
Matron for Children & Young People Sarah Shade said: “The newly refurbished rooms have made a real difference to the staff and patients. Whereas the rooms were very bland and clinical beforehand the area is now colourful and uplifting, which is imperative in helping to relieve the anxiety that many families can understandably feel when they are in hospital. We are incredibly grateful to Momentum and The Generations Foundation for making these beautiful makeovers possible.”
In addition to refurbishing large areas of the Paediatric Department at Kingston Hospital to enhance the healing environment, Momentum provides emotional and practical support to many families at the hospital as part of its Family Support Programme.
